OrgOrg vs Momentum

A personal new tab page: a photo, a daily focus, a to-do list, and timers

One price for the whole OrgOrg suite: free for teams of up to 5, every app included, then $10 per member per month. No price per app, per module, per location, or per page.

Momentum is the new tab page millions of people open every morning: a photo, a daily focus, a quote, the weather, and a to-do list, free, with Plus at $39.95 a year and a Team plan at $3.33 per user a month billed annually. OrgOrg New Tab replaces the new tab with the company's start page: meetings, tasks, go links, announcements, and who is on call, free for up to 5 people. This page lays out the honest tradeoffs.

When OrgOrg is the right pick

A team whose day runs on its own data: the next meeting from Google Calendar, the tasks and the project you pinned, the go links people use, an announcement an admin pushes, the goals, and who is on call right now. OrgOrg is the right pick when the start page should be the company's, set once by an admin and made personal by each member, and when the same extension should resolve go/ links and record the screen.

When Momentum is the right pick

A person who wants a calm start to the day and a personal productivity kit: Focus Mode, a site blocker, a Pomodoro timer, soundscapes, countdowns, and a to-do list that syncs with Todoist, Asana, Trello, GitHub, and more on Plus. Momentum is the safe pick for an individual, and its Team plan fits a company that wants a branded launch pad with shared apps, announcements, metrics, and countdowns.

Where OrgOrg wins

  • Cards that read the company's own data: the calendar with the next event, today's agenda, and a month grid; your tasks and the daily focus task; the pinned project; go links by popularity or recency; announcements; on-call; goals.
  • An admin arranges the org default once, drags and resizes the cards, picks the wallpaper, and every member inherits it; each person adds a clock, notes, or a news feed in an overlay that never changes the default.
  • A pushed card: when a deadline or an announcement matters, the admin highlights it for everyone and retires it when the moment passes.
  • A feed a card can read, an RSS news feed or Open-Meteo weather, with the URL validated and the headers from a fixed list.
  • One extension that replaces the new tab, resolves go/ links in the address bar, and records the screen, in a suite that is free for up to 5 people.

Where Momentum wins

  • Free with no credit card: a daily photo, quote, and mantra, a daily focus, the weather and a 5-day forecast, a to-do list, links, search, a Google or Outlook calendar, and Ask AI.
  • Plus for $39.95 a year: Focus Mode, a site blocker, a Pomodoro timer, soundscapes, countdowns, your own photos and fonts, Notes with AI, tab groups, metrics, and world clocks.
  • A to-do list that integrates with Asana, Basecamp, Bitbucket, ClickUp, GitHub, Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do, Todoist, and Trello on Plus.
  • A Team plan at $3.33 per user a month, billed annually, with team-wide apps, goals and objectives, a collaborative knowledge base, announcements, custom branding, company metrics, and shared countdowns and clocks.
  • Thirteen thousand Chrome Web Store reviews since 2013 and more than three million active users, by its own count.

How to move from Momentum to OrgOrg

A new tab page moves in a morning. The lists are short: the links and the to-dos. Install the extension, set the org default, and let each person bring the few things they kept on Momentum.

  1. Install the OrgOrg extension. Add it to Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, or Firefox. It replaces the browser's new tab page and resolves go/ links in the address bar. The Momentum extension can stay installed until the team is settled; one new tab page wins at a time.
  2. Set the org default. An admin opens the editor, drags the calendar, tasks, go links, announcements, on-call, and goals cards into place, resizes them, and picks the wallpaper. Every member inherits the layout.
  3. Move the links. The links people pinned on Momentum become go links, which also work in Slack and in any browser. The links card shows the popular ones by default, or a hand-picked list.
  4. Move the to-dos. A Momentum to-do becomes an OrgOrg task with an owner and a due date, and the tasks card shows them beside the daily focus task and the pinned project.
  5. Make it personal. Each person adds a clock, notes, or a news feed, and removes what they do not need, in their own overlay. The org default never overwrites it, and an admin's edit reaches everyone who has not changed that card.

The verdict

Momentum is the better pick for a person: free, beautiful, and, on Plus, a focus kit with timers, a blocker, and soundscapes for about a dollar a week. Its Team plan is a fair branded launch pad. OrgOrg is the better pick when the new tab should show the company's own day, the meeting, the tasks, the go links, the announcement, the on-call shift, from an org default an admin sets once, through the extension that also resolves go/ links and records the screen. One price covers it: free for up to five people, then $10 per member a month.

Frequently asked questions

Is Momentum free?
Yes. The free plan needs no credit card and gives a daily photo, quote, and mantra, a daily focus, the weather, a to-do list, links, search, a calendar, and Ask AI. Plus is $39.95 a year, Team is $3.33 per user a month billed annually, and Enterprise is quoted. OrgOrg is free for teams of up to 5 people with every app, then $10 per member a month.
What does Momentum Plus add?
Focus Mode, a site blocker, a Pomodoro timer, soundscapes, countdowns, your own photos and quotes, custom colors and fonts, detailed weather, to-do integrations with Todoist, Asana, Trello, GitHub, and others, Notes with AI, tab groups, metrics, and world clocks, for $39.95 a year.
Is there a free Momentum alternative for a team?
OrgOrg New Tab is free for teams of up to 5 people: the next meeting, your tasks, the go links people use, announcements, on-call, and goals on every new tab, with an org default an admin sets and a personal overlay for each member. The suite also holds the directory, go links, and the screen recorder.
Does OrgOrg New Tab have a focus mode or a site blocker?
No. OrgOrg shows a daily focus task on the tasks card and has no timer, site blocker, or soundscapes. A person who starts each block of work with a Pomodoro timer is better served by Momentum Plus.
Can an admin set the new tab page for the whole company?
In OrgOrg, yes: the org default layout, the wallpaper, and the pushed cards are the admin's, and every member inherits them; each person keeps an overlay of their own. Momentum's Team plan gives team-wide apps, announcements, metrics, countdowns, and custom branding for $3.33 per user a month billed annually.
What does OrgOrg lack that Momentum has?
Focus Mode, a site blocker, a Pomodoro timer, soundscapes, daily quotes and mantras, Ask AI, Notes with AI, and the to-do integrations with Todoist, Asana, Trello, and GitHub. OrgOrg's price covers the whole suite, which is the better deal only when the team uses more of it than the new tab.
